About me
Qualifications
I began training as a counsellor in 1994, initially gaining a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, and then went on to gain a Post-graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, becoming a BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) Accredited Counsellor, and later a Senior BACP Accredited Counsellor.
In 2005 I began my training as a Jungian Analytical Psychotherapist with the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy (WMIP), of which I am now a Professional member. I am registered with BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council), which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority, the national standards body of the United Kingdom.
I subscribe to the codes of ethics and practice of the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy and of the British Psychoanalytic Council.
Experience
I have worked in a variety of settings, including a counselling agency where I also became part of the management team, and undertook research, assessment of clients and mentoring of student counsellors. I have also worked in a GP surgery, and as part of an NHS Mental Health Team. I now work only in private practice.
As a member of WMIP, I have chaired the Membership Committee and have taught trainee psychotherapists.
Issues I work with
I have worked with a variety of issues, including:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Low self-esteem
- Relationship and marital problems
- Separation and divorce
- Parenting difficulties
- Identity (who or what am I?)
- Abuse
- Self-harm
- Suicide
- Work related stress
I have a particular interest in anxiety and depression, but it is each person’s individuality that I am interested in, as everyone has his or her own unique qualities, difficulties and capacities.
